FAQs
What are your delivery times?
We ship out of Carlsbad, CA (just about an hour or two outside Los Angeles) Monday-Friday, 9-5. Usually your order will ship out within a couple hours of ordering, however on busy drop days please allow up to 3 business days for your order to ship. Please note, we do not ship on the weekends, so if you order on a Friday late afternoon or evening your order will not ship until Monday. Please allow up to seven business days for your order to arrive for US orders (though it will generally arrive much sooner than that!), and up to 21 business days for international orders.
Why is my package not being scanned or updated?
During busy times of the year, and sometimes just randomly with USPS, parcels don't always get a scan until they're further along in transit, or even until they're delivered. International orders can also have longer periods in between scans. Please allow up to the full delivery time (7 business days for USA orders, 21 business days for international orders) before reaching out.
I've ordered the wrong item/put the wrong address, what should I do?
Please send us an email, hello@purushapeople.com, and we will see if we can get to it in time!
What is your return policy?
Please see it here.
I think I received a defective product. What do I do?
So sorry! Sometimes items that are seconds quality get missed during QC, and we are happy to either replace the item if possible, take the item back for a full refund, or pay to cover a tailoring cost.
Due to the fact that we do garment dye (dyeing in bulk already sewn pieces- this is hard on garments and results in pin holes and torn stitching in some pieces), we have more damages than other brands to sort through. We are working our hardest to make sure these pieces don't make it to you, but if they do, we absolutely are dedicated to making it right!
Please send an email with photos to hello@purushapeople.com.
Why is it so expensive?
Making products in the USA from sustainable materials is anything but cheap, but it's a labor of love we believe in. Our margins at our current price point are so much lower than other brands that we are not even able to sell our products in other stores, as there is no room for profits at wholesale cost. We're proud to say we follow all the stringent California laws for dye disposal, ink safety, and workplace requirements for minimum wage. We also believe the quality, art, and comfort of our clothing is unmatched! Our ethos is that it's better to own one beautiful thing than five, and we truly don't need as many articles of clothing as we think.
I keep missing what I want! Why is it so hard to purchase?
We recommend getting to drops right on time, as sometimes items sell out within minutes. We don't make a ton of inventory because we're a small brand, but also because we think it's worse to overproduce than it is to sell out. It's tough as a small business to get stuck with inventory that doesn't sell, and we'd rather not waste resources with a rapidly changing planet that needs more thoughtfulness.
I missed out on an item, when will it be restocked?
We do not restock items at the moment as we have around a four month lead time from start to finish on our products. Our designs are very much based on the current season, and by the time we go into production for a restock, often we've moved into a different season where that product might not make as much sense.
How do I wash my Purusha?
1. WASH ON GENTLE OR DELICATE
2. WASH WITH SIMILAR COLORS FOR THE FIRST FEW WASHES (our pieces are garment dyed; therefore, they may bleed slightly for the first wash or two.)
3. WASH INSIDE OUT to preserve the water-based print. white ink tends to look cracked until it's washed and settled into the fabric. the first wash will allow the print to settle into the fabric for all colors, and ink colors may change slightly after the first wash.
4. HANG DRY outside of full sun or tumble dry low
5. DO NOT HAND WASH with detergents, as they tend to stain garment dye when not thoroughly dissolved
Why does my white ink look cracked?
White ink is notorious in the water based ink industry for being a thicker paint, and can look a bit cracked on your garment when you first receive it. Please wash it once, and it will soften the ink right into your piece, removing all cracks and smoothing the ink just right!
How do I care for metallic inks?
Gold and silver metallic inks are a bit trickier to care for than normal opaque colored inks. We recommend turning your garment inside out and washing gentle to preserve any gold or silver metallics!
Why are there small balls inside my double layered top?
When we do garment dye with our forest fiber, we do an all natural enzyme wash to remove any potential pilling from our garments. Pilling is a typical side effect with garment dyeing any cellulose- based (wood fiber) fabric, and is frequently an issue that causes people to throw away clothing. Sometimes the enzyme wash removes pills inside the two layers of fabric, and unfortunately, these small balls of material have nowhere to go. This happens from time to time with our pieces, and we recommend pulling apart the two pieces of fabric with your hands, and shaking down the pills to to the bottom of the garment where they are not as easily noticed or felt.
Have you changed your fabric?
No! We pride ourselves on using Lenzing certified siro tencel, and have been with the same knitter in Los Angeles since 2019. (Not many people can say they make their entire line- start to finish- in the US!) When ordering fabric, there is always around a .5 oz variation in weight, and different lots (about 700 yards for us) can have a different hand and even slightly different stretch as spandex can also be variable. Furthermore, different colors in garment dye can make a piece feel softer or heavier, allowing for slight differences in a fabric's hand.
Why is my latest piece a bit tighter/looser/longer/shorter than another similar piece?
We currently rely on garment dye to offer so many unique colors and crystal dye techniques. Garment dye requires different temperatures for each color, so they can shrink just slightly differently. There should not be a huge variation in sizing however, so if you're finding it to be vastly different there might be an issue with a garment being mislabeled. Please email us hello@purushapeople.com if you suspect this is the case!
My piece has a hole or a torn thread upon receiving, what should I do?
If you receive a defective item we are glad to replace it if possible, take it back for a full refund, or cover tailoring costs with a receipt. We do not cover these costs with general wear and tear.

Where are you located?
We ship out of Carlsbad, CA, and the business HQ is based out of Litchfield, CT.
Will my clothing shrink?
All Purusha pieces come pre-shrunk, and will not shrink further in the wash.
Can I swim in my Purusha?
Yes! I would recommend staying out of chlorine pools, however swimming in freshwater with forest fiber is blissful!
Do your bra tops work for bigger busts?
100%! We've heard our pieces support up to a size 'I'. Please feel free to join any of our Purusha People BST groups on FB to chat with other women in the community, and hear what they have to say!
